Hey hey. Do you ever get anxious? Have you ever felt rejected, insecure, not good enough? Sometimes life, people or our circumstances have a way of putting us into a tough spot where we can lose sight of the truth of who we are as daughters of Christ and turn to things that maybe we shouldn’t.
Very recently I went through a break up – it was rough to say the least! I had been dating a guy who was pretty much my first serious relationship, my first love and I was convinced that he was the one God had for me to marry. Boy was I wrong! As the relationship continued I began to feel more and more anxious, and more insecure than ever. I was allowing him to dictate how I felt about myself – not cool!
**Side note: the man God has for you will never make you feel poorly about yourself! He will lift you up, and strengthen you to be the woman God has called you to be!
A few months later it was finally time to call it quits – I was done! The breakup was also pretty uncool! All in all I felt bashed, rejected and insecure on top of being utterly heartbroken. I asked myself over and over again “how do I deal with this?”
Girls, don’t do what I did! I straight up googled “how to get over a breakup” and let me tell you, google was not incredibly helpful. Everything went along the lines of “hustle for you and only you – become a girlboss”. While working on yourself is never a bad thing, what I did was turn to “self-help” guidance from the world instead of leaning into my Heavenly Father to heal my hurts and remind me of my identity in Him.
Psalm 120:1 says “In my distress I cried to the Lord, and He heard me”.
The truth of all of this is that no matter what’s going on in your world, God is there. He hears you. He is always present and ready to heal, comfort, bring peace, rejoice with you in your highs and cry with you in your lows. One of the greatest downfalls of being human is that we are fallible, flawed, but one of the greatest joys of being His daughter is that we are redeemed despite this.
People are inconsistent, and sometimes we get hurt because of this inconsistency. It makes us feel rejected, hurt, insecure, anxious, not good enough and so the list continues. When this happens, when you feel these things, I encourage you to do these few things:
Dig into the word and lean on God. Girl, read your bible – nuff said!
Become a prayer warrior!
Philippians 4:6 is one of my favourite verses because it says this – “BE ANXIOUS FOR NOTHING, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God”.
Why? Because He hears you and He cares about the smallest thing happening in your life so tell Him everything! Be faithful in your prayer life and God will reward that!
3. Let go and let God!
This is one of my favourite tag lines because it is so simple, yet so true.
Psalm 46:10 says “Be still and know that I am God”. (This one is one of my favs too!) Did you know that the original root in the Hebrew for ‘be still’ is actually ‘let go’? “Let go and know that I am God”.
So do it! Let it go, relinquish control of whatever situation is burdening you, making you feel insecure and hand it over to God. He can only bring healing when you decide to let him do it.
4. Focus outward – surround yourself with good people and build each other up!
Instead of wallowing in whatever you are feeling alone, follow what it says in
Jude 1:20 – “but you, dear friends, must build each other up”.
Surround yourself with good people who will build you up in your God given identity, people who will encourage you to use your gifts to serve others!
So girls, listen up. When you’re anxious, insecure, and you feel like you’re not good enough don’t turn to advice you find on the internet or social media, turn to God. He alone carries you and He WILL carry you through every high and low in life.
You are fearfully and wonderfully made! You got this girl!
