Summer Reads

Updated: May 31, 2020

Now I have not always loved reading, but over the years I have grown to enjoy it! Find me a good book that will challenge me and inspire my faith or a good historical fiction (with some romance) and I’m hooked!

Now hear me out even if you do not consider yourself a reader. The books that I am going to suggest below are some of my all time favourite books (that I have read thus far). They are not hard or long books to read, and have been so life giving to me! Honestly, once you find a good book you’ll become a reader, and perhaps one of these books will change your mind about reading. Take your time, read a couple pages every day or every other day, there is no pressure.

So let’s jump right into it! Here are 5 books that I would hands down recommend for gals anywhere from 12 years and up…

  1. Spoken For: Embracing Who You Are and Whose you Are – by Alyssa Bethke and Robin Jones Gunn.

Honestly, I cannot say enough good things about this book! It is a smaller book that makes for an easy read, but is filled with life altering truths. This book resonated so much with me and helped me understand what my identity in Christ actually means. In fact it was this book that ignited a passion within me to help other girls comprehend whose they are and how that changes everything!

2.  Uninvited: Living Loved When You Feel Less Than, Left Out, and Lonely – by Lysa               TerKeurst

This is a book that so many of us, if not all women can relate to. Lysa brings to light lies that the enemy uses to cripple us and steal our joy and speaks powerful truths that she herself had to remind herself of multiple times throughout her own life when she has felt less than or unwanted. This book will give you biblical truth, challenge you to get honest with yourself and help begin the healing process of the wounds caused by your deepest insecurities.

3. Love Does: Discover A Secretly Incredible Life In An Ordinary World – by Bob Goff

This book is a beautiful collection of incredible stories from Bob’s life. If you don’t know who Bob Goff is, he is practically a legend! Honestly! The stories he shares in this book will leave you with your jaw dropped one minute, laughing the next or just shaking your head in disbelief. For Bob it is simple; he believes that love does. So if you wanna go on an adventure with Bob and be challenged by the greatest commandment Jesus calls us to, please read this book! Its so good!

4. Dance Stand Run: The God-Inspired Moves Of A Woman On Holy Ground – by Jess             Connolly

This book is perhaps a bit of a deeper read, but please do not let that intimidate you. This book has revealed some dark corners of my heart and has challenged me in why and how I do things. Jess speaks so much truth and digs deep into scripture (which I LOVE) and invites us to dance in grace, stand on holy ground and run on mission.

5. Love That Lasts: How We Discovered God’s Better Way For Love, Dating, Marriage             And Sex – by Jeff and Alyssa Bethke

Now what’s a good list of book recommendations without a relationship book! But actually I was really surprised with this book. It was not what I was expecting (in a good way). Jeff and Alyssa are so passionate about cultivating healthy relationships whether that is single, dating or married and write from their own experiences. Basically this book is their whole love story (which is amazing) but, they also get real vulnerable and share the hard parts of their pasts as well as the biblical truths they have learned along the way. Another reason why I love this book is because anyone can read it! Males, females, whether you’re single, dating, engaged, married, divorced, widowed, you can glean truth from this book!

Well there you have it. Hope you get a chance (or have perhaps already had the chance) to read some of these amazing life changing books! Let me know via email, in the comments or on social media which books you have read or if you have any other book recommendations. I’d love to hear from you.

~ your friend, Daysha
