Hey hey! In need of some great book recommendations for the summer, an upcoming vacation, or a rainy day? In this post I will be sharing five books I have recently read and highly recommend (disclaimer… there is one I haven’t had the chance to read yet because it just released, but I totally still recommend it!)
So let’s get right to it:
Remember God by Annie F. Downs
Wow! Just wow! This book is so beautifully written and puts into words what many of us are actually thinking and feeling. Annie does not hold back and gets real vulnerable with her readers which makes the message more accessible. This is because she is not simply an author spewing words at you from the place of arrival or accomplishment, but rather a person who is walking through the trenches of questions and taking readers along for the journey. And if you don’t know Annie from social media (@Anniefdowns) or her other books, she has a wonderful sense of humour and zeal for life (she’s an enneagram seven) which is evident in her words! It’s a beautiful read, and if you let it, it can totally change the way you view God.
by Bob Goff
Alright, so in my Summer Reads blog post from last year I recommended Love Does by Bob Goff, which is kinda like a prequel to Everybody Always. If you haven’t read Love Does, I recommend you read it before Everybody Always, however it is not required.
Bob is an incredible story teller! If you don’t consider yourself a reader or find reading boring, READ THIS BOOK! You will laugh out loud and maybe even shed a few tears as you read the stories and lessons Bob has personally experienced. This man is a legend! And his words while delivered simply, are so challenging to every human being. Despite race, background or religion, Bob “points the way to embodying love by doing the unexpected, the intimidating, [and] the seemingly impossible,” (Everybody Always).
3. Live Fearless by Sadie Robertson
Sadie is a straight up powerhouse! While it is incredible to learn from those who are older than us, there is something so impactful about hearing from those your age. Sadie has a passion for the next generation and champions them on from the very same playing field, not the on looking bleachers. In this book, she unfolds the story of how anxiety and fear have paralyzed her in the past, and her discovery to living a fearless life in the midst of a scary world. Whether you are 70 years old or 10 years old, Sadie’s words cross all age demographics.
4. Letter’s From a Big Sister by Heather Boersma
Letter’s From a Big Sister is not your typical fiction book, but I do want to include it on this summer reads list!
When I was younger I always wanted big sister. Since I was the only girl sandwiched in between two boys, I dreamed of having someone to share clothes with, give fashion and hair tips, advice with boots and friends. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think almost every girl would love someone older and wiser who has gone before them to help guide them along the way.
This is exactly what Heather Boersma’s book Letter’s From a Big Sister is all about. It’s a compilation of letters written by big sisters in the faith who have gone before us and are giving us younger sisters advice on how to navigate the craziness of life. The words and stories in this book hit home for me now at age 22. I can’t imagine the impact it would’ve had on me when I was a teenager.
Is there a “younger sister” in your life who looks up to you? A niece, daughter, neighbour, cousin, friend? Or perhaps you would identify yourself as the younger sister. Then to you, I highly recommend this book!!
In addition, Heather is from Winnipeg, Manitoba, which as a fellow Canadian, just think that is the coolest!
5. Own Your Everyday by Jordan Dooley
Now, this is the book that I have not actually read yet, however I had it on pre-order for months and I cannot wait to read it! So why recommend a book I haven’t read?
I have been following Jordan online probably close to 5 years now, so we’re basically friends right? haha! “Jordan has built a massive online following, and her “SHE” podcast garnered over 1 million downloads within 12 weeks of its debut. Widely recognized for her tagline “Your Brokenness is Welcome Here,” Jordan has become a go-to source that women around the world look to for daily inspiration to find their purpose in life.” Her words are grounded in Biblical truth and her bubbly personality echos in all she does. When I heard she was writing a book, I knew I would buy it based on the great content and service she has continually poured out online.
So if you are in a transition season, graduating, moving, etc.. or just feel lost and directionless, this book is for you!
Well there you have it. Hope you get a chance (or perhaps have already had the chance) to read some of these amazing life changing books! Let me know via email, in the comments or on social media which books you have read or if you have any other book recommendations. I’d love to hear from you.
Happy reading,
Daysha!
